These fish have a lot of bone and are not good to eat, not to mention the waters up north are all polluted. So its mostly for fun or mounting.

Same family, and they are both considered a pike. And pound per pound a Northern pike is the better fighter, in my opinion.

The northern pike (Esox lucius)
they are different species, although they may look a like they have a different gill plate and diff colouration, also muskies usually grow larger than northerns.
